Term 3 Professional Learning Growth

  Term 3 Professional Growth

Term 3 brings it new challenges and learning. This term I have been asked to be our Junior team, Waka Ahuru's team leader. Wow, what a privilege this is for me to be thought of and considered as I have only been a Homai for 1 term.
All I know is I bring new thinking, new vibe and a new perspective on things.
I look forward to this new role as it is for the rest of the year as I get to know by new team and build new professional relationships with them.

 Cook Island language week

 Tongan Language week

Te wiki te reo Maori (I was absent)

 Book Parade

I am so proud of my team as we are growing and working together as a waka. 'He waka eke noa'

As well as learning in this new role at a new school, our school has been participating in Professional Learning Development.
Maths with Bina, Structured Literacy, Innovative Learning and Relationship First are the PLD's that stood out for me and I have taken for me to apply to my teaching practice.

Update.. Term 2 2022

 How's it goin? Update.. Term 2 2022

Term 1 was such a hard term. With Covid19 still around in the community attendance was hard for students. Room 3 even had a close contact in the class and had to sent home for 7 days.
It was an experience as I visited my students and families dropping off learning packs and 'Home Learning' was activated.

Before all of this was happened, I fell ill with shingles so, i missed the first 3 weeks of school and then my class was sent home due to the above situation.

It was hard for students and families to come back. It took time and patience.

In class Manaiakalani support. Cyber Smart lesson.

It wasn't till the beginning of March students and families were beginning to return back and that the government changed the close contacts to only family household members.

Term 1 was not an easy term and I did my best. Things were changing and one was a big decision for me to leave the beautiful school Glenbrae school to work closer to home in South Auckland at Homai School

In my short time here at Glenbrae School, I was able to accomplish,

March 24th 2020 - April 14th 2022

Roles and Responsibilities:

- Oral language PLD, Junior team teacher, Term 2 Manaiakalani DFI PLD -(2020), Term 3 Manaiakalani presentation workshop presenter (2020), Social committee member, Creating class films for Manaiakalani film festival, supporting my class to run and present online school assembly, Planning and teaching online, House Leader,  TAI (Teaching As Inquiry),

- Sports coordinator, attending Tamaki Cluster meetings face to face and online, Registering teams to play sports within Tamaki cluster, with support from Auckland sport organised Volleyball tournament for schools in the Tamaki cluster. Planning for school wide sports and games. Co-ordinated after school sports, i.e Auckland Netball. Transporting students to and from games. Communicating with external providers- Table tennis, cricket, basketball and Kelly sports for programme delivery for classes. Drafting sports letters for sports teams. Purchasing and organizing sports equipment for the school.

Many thanksThank you Glenbrae school and Glenbrae students, families and the community for teaching so much in such a little time. I look forward to new learning at my new school, Homai School in Manurewa where I can apply my new learning.

Term 2 starting at a new school.. Homai School in Manurewa.

Our class is Room 12. I am teaching in a year 1 class. Here are some of the students at the start of term 2. A class full of smart little learners.

Room 12 has sensory play with Whaea Angela. Room 12 love this time of exploration and creative play. We look forward coming into our school garden and working with Whaea Angela.

Room 12 acknowledging PINK day - Anti bullying. Our school wore pink.

Room 12 has special visitors every Wednesday. It is our transition visit from All About Childhood early childhood centre. We help them with different fun activities.

Room 12 ended the term with 16 students. It has been a term with many illness as Covid19 is still around. This resulted in low attended in my class.

Homai school is not a Manaiakalani school but recently signed up as Manaiakalani outreach school, so in term 3, I look forward to implementing my learning from Glenbrae into Room 12 here at Homai.

I will continue to work my professional blogging  and my class blogging.

Welcome to 2022 - Looking at my Data

 kia ora

Kia Orana and welcome to another year of my professional learning journey.
Wow, what a start to 2022.
- Another covid response outbreak in our country.
- Outbreaks in our community
- testing and testing and more testing
- close contacts and family contacts
- self isolations
- low attendances in schools across the county.

For me... I had an outbreak of Shingles.. this delayed my start in term 1.

After all these disruptions to start of the year.. our staff got together to look our 2021 end of data.

We all thought.. what data???? 2021 data??? We all remembered our last day of school 2021 was back in August.. Home learning and online google meets kicked in..

 positive red arrow presentation

Our darling students have not been at school since then.

In our teams we did the best we could with the information we had to best analysis the data and see the story unfolding before us.

As a Manaiakalani school our curriculum focus is Literacy in Reading.

My class data is interesting as I have a whole new class with new students I know nothing about.
As I looked at the information about my students I started to see my new learners and slowly come to know them.

Yes, it's not the best.. but whose is???

My data tells me,
- they are achieving low with level 1.
- some students have not been reading since last year. (discussion with teacher)

Term 1 2022 Testing!!
yes, it's that time of the year as collect data from my students. It is taking a very long time, with the covid outbreak and families isolating, students are away so, I test who is present and test when students return.

Reflection:
This year I'm teaching year 2's and 3's. Pretty cool and lots of rethinking for me.
Working in level 1.
Learning and understanding a Structured Literacy Programmes.

This is big year for me as I starting thinking about my literacy programme and the approaches I will research and use to improve my learners reading.

This year on my TAI journey, I look forward to use this platform to show my Teaching As Inquiry progress.

2021 TAI (Teaching as Inquiry) sharing celebrations

 hang in there

My TAI journey this year has been an interesting one. The impact of it was not what is expected due to obvious reasons.

and thank you to

Room 3 tried their best with Online Home Learning with the help and support of parents and whanau.

So, how did my TAI go...

Let's see my TAI presentation.

My goal next year is to actually use my blog more effectively to show my journey of my TAI and so that, I can just present my blog.

As always in teaching, we are always learning. Failing and struggling  is apart of the learning process. If we don't struggle and fail, we don't learn.

Bitmoji Image

I am pretty excited to use this platform to share my Teaching as Inquiry. As I dive into my teaching practice to explore a variety of methods to improve achievement levels for my 8 year 4 target students. This is great way for me to get these students ready for year 5 next year.

Our School wide Focusing Inquiry Curriculum Area: is Oral Language / Reading

I have broken it down and  I will inquiry into:
How will rich vocabulary words improve student reading outcomes?

As an experience teacher, I look forward to exploring my practice at this new school, where I have been here for the last year.
Lots of new learning and building new relationships with staff, families, the community and my students.
Throughout the year, I will be blogging about my students and teaching and learning and our success and failures.

I look forward to reading and exploring research that can support my teaching practice and assessment.

wish me luck

2020 at Glenbrae School

Bitmoji Image

What a year 2020 has been for me. Who would of thought I would start at Glenbrae school during a global pandemic of Covid19 and New Zealand and the rest of the world would be lockdown.

This was my year of moving classrooms. I did really well coping and I worked really hard with all the new learning. I will start with the physical classroom.
Starting in Room 4. Preparations for refurbishment of the junior buildings and moving into the Hall side room. We were in there for about 2 weeks while Room 11 was being painted and new carpet was being put in.
That's when I started to prepare Room 11. We stayed in Room 11 for majority of the year until December.
Then, we had to move again to a little side room called the annex room. We were in there for 2 weeks and then we finally moved to Room 3.

Our new refurbished classroom our finished and getting ready for 2021.
Next year our class will be Room 3.

What a year.

Manaiakalani Create Workshop Opportunity

Manaiakalani Create Workshop Opportunity

Amy Tofa and I having the opportunity to share with colleagues to create a virtual library.

Here is the slide I create to support our workshop for creating a virtual library.

On Monday 10th August 2020, I was given the opportunity to teach a workshop at a Manaiakalani Create workshop at Tamaki College.

Earlier this year during lockdown level 4 I came across a Facebook group called Bitmoji Craze for Educators. Here I found an explored a virtual library.

There are number of youtube clips that teachers around the whole shared their creations of virtual classrooms and libraries and the benefits of using them.

Being new to Glenbrae school and the Manaiakalani programme this was great experience to explore and share my new learning.

This was a cool experience to share the knowledge I have learnt and having the opportunity to share this and help other educators to create their own virtual library and use in their classrooms.

Photos credits: Amy Tofa. Thank you.

Educators hard at work creating their own virtual library.
Thank you Glenbrae school and Manaiakalani for this opportunity.
