Kia Orana and welcome to another year of my professional learning journey.
Wow, what a start to 2022.
- Another covid response outbreak in our country.
- Outbreaks in our community
- testing and testing and more testing
- close contacts and family contacts
- self isolations
- low attendances in schools across the county.
For me... I had an outbreak of Shingles.. this delayed my start in term 1.
After all these disruptions to start of the year.. our staff got together to look our 2021 end of data.
We all thought.. what data???? 2021 data??? We all remembered our last day of school 2021 was back in August.. Home learning and online google meets kicked in..

Our darling students have not been at school since then.
In our teams we did the best we could with the information we had to best analysis the data and see the story unfolding before us.
As a Manaiakalani school our curriculum focus is Literacy in Reading.
My class data is interesting as I have a whole new class with new students I know nothing about.
As I looked at the information about my students I started to see my new learners and slowly come to know them.
Yes, it's not the best.. but whose is???
My data tells me,
- they are achieving low with level 1.
- some students have not been reading since last year. (discussion with teacher)
Term 1 2022 Testing!!
yes, it's that time of the year as collect data from my students. It is taking a very long time, with the covid outbreak and families isolating, students are away so, I test who is present and test when students return.
Reflection:
This year I'm teaching year 2's and 3's. Pretty cool and lots of rethinking for me.
Working in level 1.
Learning and understanding a Structured Literacy Programmes.
This is big year for me as I starting thinking about my literacy programme and the approaches I will research and use to improve my learners reading.
This year on my TAI journey, I look forward to use this platform to show my Teaching As Inquiry progress.
