Key points I picked up today is, it's all the about the HOOK, to 'hook' our learners into learning. Teacher to emphasis that students are coming to 'create' and not only to learn, but to bring the learning into 'action'

Students are developing the skills to problem solve, communicate, and collaborate.

Creating is a 'doing' word that has multiple senses and it involves using the whole body.

Another key point that I picked up is SISOMO (Sight, Sound and Motion) These are senses that help and support our learners in their learning.

OUR DEEP DIVE today

Drones; their purpose, the types of drones, how to set up drones, how they are used in school settings, the programmes for using drones and attachments used.

This was surely deep dive learning for me today.. Gee, learning about drones and their uses, made me feel like I was drowning. I have seen drones at my previous school. I have seen the benefits of it, but personal, I have not had the opportunity of use it yet. Fingers cross for future opportunities to have a try at my new school in the future.

OUR LEARNING TODAY

An amazing presentation google app that allows you to create presentation slides to support your story and teaching. I personally love using this and I use this all the time. However, I still have lots to learn that can support and manage my workflow.

This can be use for anything and everything creating images, buttons, using creative shape.
For me, I still learning this and how to use it. I only the basics, and I know to practice, practice and practice.

Now this was interesting for me to learning about and how to use more safely.
For school and have a more secure settings for my students and keeping them safe, creating and using school account - having it unlisted, used for kids, and creating playlist, oh I forgot, using STUDIO Youtube and not the normal open youtube. Im still learning and exploring this to keep myself and students safe.

Yes, I created 2, I'm going through a bitmoji phase.

Digital Art - Task: create a slide show representing a verse of a song. 
I created this using google slides the song is 'Try Everything' from Zootopia.

Application

I know as I continue to explore google slides, I will get better. This is definitely help with my management of workflow. I know am sharing my learning with my husband who is also an educator and I can see the benefits of his workflow too.

Im looking forward to exploring studio youtube and google drawings more.

As I reflect as previous sessions, there are things I need to explore more to make my work flow better. I just to make the time and rewind the learning. I need to have and develop better time management and workflow. 

Such as emails flitering, organising tabs, using google docs and the tools. Im just going to take a deep breathe and go, as fast as I can, but as slow as I must.

Ako - LEARN

The key points I picked up is acknowledging the pre-exisiting knowledge of using paper/books and pencil/pens and how students transferred their knowledge on these materials.  The implementation of digital teaching and how our current pandemic of Covid19 forced all educators to move to distance online learning. Throughout this, is supporting 21st century learning.

The goal was to support the community with moving from analogy to digital learning environments.

With this goal is mind, this would result to teacher effectiveness of planning and teaching and promoting students learning.

This made school principals to ask to the question, 'What does LEARN look like at my school?'

From this this question created R (recognise), A (amplify), T (turbocharge), E (effective practice)

Google Calendar - organising events, meetings, social 

Google Keep - Note taking app, using a label, changing colours, linking to devices with same account.

Gmail -send and receive emails, organising emails into folder, creating labels, filtering emails and creating a signature.

Google Hangout - meet expectations, video sharing, remote hangouts/meetings

Google Meet - remote meeting, video sharing, screen sharing. Accessing google meet via gmail, calendar, hyperlink, start or join a meeting, record meetings, presenting your screen


CREATE and SHARE

Today I learnt and created...

A Google meet meeting with my DFI bubble. 

I created a theme for my Gmail account.

I even learnt to schedule an email to be sent at a certain date and time.

There was a lot of this today. Everything involved going to settings and clicking on drop boxes, typing in boxes, copy paste email addresses, organising tabs, folders...
Lucky we have a group meet where we all are learning and listening and from there we are in bubble groups with facilitators guiding us through. My facilitator Vanessa is a God sent.

Applications of these Google apps and how they make life much easier...
I am going to keep on working on organizing of my emails, so once I have read them, they are can go straight to a folder.
I keep reverting back to what I know, the old school long way of doing things, which makes me reflect that I am working harder and not smarter. 
It has taken me 2 sessions to have a better understanding and changing my mind set to try these new skills of using applications and that the facilitators have spend time exploring this applications and how they work to make our lives much easier. eg, notes verse google keep. 'Just keep swimming' and 'smile and wave.'

• What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

My understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy is of the importance of Learn, Create and Share. The foundation and history of Manaiakalani and educators in the Tamaki area back in 2005 and understanding the need for ALL students having access to knowledge and technology. LEARN - The importance to motivate our learners to engage with the curriculum, providing learning opportunities for our students to become 21st century learners. CREATE - Our students having and establishing authentic audience for their learning. SHARE - This is help empower our students to bring to life their student voice. This is the end will help raise student achievements outcomes.

Another point I remember is still using the basic of books for students to use and to put their learning and ideas on paper. Then transfer that knowledge to use of devices to create and share their learning, taking photos, using kidz pix drawing, video and recording students reading out their stories.

Another point was having devices affordable to families.

• What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

• Today I learned and explored: 
• different web browers, How Goggle Chrome is easier to use with its programs and accessibility.
• Logging into your Gmail account.
• Having different accounts work and personal
• Personalising your drive, and using chrome themes
• Creating folders and having your drive in order and you knowing where your documents are.
• Book Marking websites and organising your book marks.
• The use of the waffle icon.
• The use of omni box and how you can type in a question and press enter, you get your answer.
• Google group - message group, now is cool.
• And how there is more to google docs...
• Using the voice typing tool.
• In google docs - there is so much to explore that I do not know of or existed. It was fun exploring this.

I created this in google docs and the picture in with the dishes and the picture of the child cleaning his room, it had a white background and I was able to change it so it suited the document. (google.bg.) I also used bitmoji images and different type text with different colours.

The learning experience will help me create more creative task designs and using easier ways to use headings, using tools, citing quotes and even changing the paper colour. This allows me to have more skills using documents.

• What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

I know I will continue to still use their books for students to put their learning and ideas on paper. Then transfer that knowledge to use of devices to create and share their learning, taking photos, video and recording students reading out their stories and adding it to our class blog.

Lately I have been exploring using and creating task boards and using bitmojis. With each tasks I will be adding links to books or youtube clips to other slides with learning.

Lately it has been my home learning site for Room 4. This has been an awesome learning experience designing and creating.

With my learners, I could use adding an image and typing a sentence and also changing the colour of the paper. (I have year 2's and 3's)

Using a table with some many squares or 4. Each square could be an idea, an image and a sentence.

Lastly, using the voice typing tool, they could speak their story and find an image to go with their story. Using the voice typing tool today was fun.

• What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

I believe I quite confident using google chrome, drive, and the basics of google docs. Exploring the extra tools just makes things easier and faster. What I have learnt today has given me more skills to use programs more efficiently and the knowledge to teach my students.

After my first DFI PLD today, I know things move fast, I need to keep up, and in the end, there are amazing patience Manaiakalani facilitators that will help us all every step of the way in our Digital Fluency Intensive learning journey. Oh I forgot to add my cool digital learning bubble with Venessa and her support and help in our bubble.

As this is my final reflective journey blog I will explore my key change on my Mind Lab journey and the impact it has had within my professional practice referring to Rolfe’s reflection model to structure my thoughts.

What? Step 1 (What): Identify one key change in your professional practice

The key change in my professional practice I identify with is:

Design for learning based on curriculum and pedagogical knowledge, assessment information and an understanding of each learner’s strengths, interests, needs, identities, languages and cultures.

This means that I need to carefully select teaching approaches, resources, and learning and assessment activities based on a thorough knowledge of curriculum content, pedagogy, progressions in learning and the learners. (Ministry of Education (2017, p.20).

Now What? Step 2 (Now what): Evaluate the identified change

Stage 1: Problem identification

What drives me to make this change is, how I need to have the knowledge to design learning tasks. I have to try new things for I cannot do the same thing and expect different results.

I believe this change is important, for teaching is changing and evolving. The way our students are learning is changing. Technology is now everywhere. I need to design tasks that will enhance my teaching strategies, approaches, and purposeful learning activities, modify these to the needs of individuals and groups of learners.

Stage 2: Observation and analysis

I problem I will face as design for learning is that student main use of technology or digital devices is entertainment and they like to just play games. I need to design tasks that is purposeful and that will challenge them. Osterman & Kottkamp, (2015, p74.) states I need to be honed in my observation skills to analysis, reconceptualization, and experiment.

Stage 3: Abstract re conceptualization

Osterman, & Kottkamp, (2015, p.87 & 88) mentions that within this stage, as educators may find great value in working

collaboratively with colleagues as they attempt to develop

solutions to the same or similar problems (Fullan, 1999, 2001;

Miller, 1990). By drawing on another’s experience and expertise of colleagues, we increase a pool of available ideas and resources.

Stage 4: Active experimentation

Osterman, & Kottkamp, (2015, p.90) mentions points for me to apply

-       be open to new ideas.

-       Develop new ideas and theories and how might things work.

-       Develop and action plan with strategies  to cope and work with.

-       Have a growth mindset to give things a go.

What Next? Step 3 (What next) Share your next plan(s) regarding your future professional development or your future practice.

This clearly links to my syndicate Spiral of Inquiry and how explicit teacher talk links to task design to help students articulate their learning. My where to next to carefully plan blended learning environment into my classroom 2019. Carefully create task design that will challenge, help my students learn about and develop 21 century skills.

I have learnt so much, leadership in digital and collaborative learning, digital and collaborative learning, research and community informed practice and applied practice.  Yes, it was hard, but very rewarding. I love digital technology and worked hard to implement it within my classroom. I am so glad that there are teachers out there that know the best apps to use for there are so many and it is very hard to find the time to explore them. The opportunity to do this course with many of my staff was a great experience. This Mindlab journey of mine was a blessing with the wealth of knowledge shared.
